The App Terrassa Augmentada has been awarded

The App Terrassa Augmented developed by the Audiovisual Unit at i2CAT Foundation and the project of technology tools for educational launched by mNACTEC, have received an award from the Ibero-American Awards for Education and Museums 2014.

The Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC) has been awarded with the V Ibero-American Prize for Education and Museums for its project  "technological tools in science museums: education inside and outside the classroom" which combines territory – museum and city – with digital technologies through Internet and applications for smartphones. The winning project is based on four actions carried out by the museum, including the Terrassa Augmentada application, which was published in the markets last May available for both Android and iOS devices. Terrassa Augmentada is an innovative and sustainable initiative that values the rich cultural and industrial heritage of the city. Amongst the many features offered in the application, stands out the Augmented Reality technology, allowing users to view the real and virtual worlds in real time, superimposing historic images of the most emblematic industrial and modernist buildings in Terrassa in their real environment.

This prize is awarded by the Ibermuseos program, a collaborative initiative of the Latin American countries to promote public policies in the field of museums and awards educational projects that promote personal development and social cohesion. More than 130 projects from 14 Latin American countries were submitted, which have been evaluated by a technical committee composed of experts from 10 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay).

The mNACTEC project and the Terrassa Augmentada application have ended in 4th position amongst 13 winning finalists, and ended first of the two Spanish finalists. The award has a prize of $ 5,000.

Furthermore, within the framework of the science week, on 20 November, the mNACTEC will host a day dedicated to educational activities and technological tools where i2CAT Foundation has been invited and will participate in the session The cultural heritage of the future: the challenge of using mobile phones to access new audiences presenting the App to the audience.
