HIPERMED receives the Silver Award at Celtic-Plus 2014

HIPERMED Project receives in Monte-Carlo (Monaco) the Celtic-Plus Silver Excellence Award 2014.

Last 23rd April, 2014, as a result of the outcomes and impact of the HIPERMED Project, in which i2CAT played a very significant role (Technical Coordinator), the industry-driven European research initiative Celtic-Plus, decided to give the Silver Excellence Award in the Celtic-Plus Event 2014, hosted in Monte-Carlo (Monaco). The business relevance for this project was considered to be very high and the project realized 12 new and improved products. Moreover, in several countries a large amount of commercial users and many clinics have become interested to adopt the HIPERMED system.

The HIPERMED Project basis relied on the fact that availability of high performance telemedicine systems has been for a long time a goal for most Medical Universities and Centres of Excellence. This technological advancement is considered a fundamental asset for those institutions with interest in dissemination of their expertise, and a way to continuously keeping their professionals updated on the most novel techniques. Moreover, second opinion services and distantly located collaborative activities between different medical disciplines may also benefit of this technological solutions, not only in industrialized countries, where network communications are almost guaranteed, but also in developing countries, where these solutions can help improving access to specialized healthcare services.

Taking into account this scenario, different relevant organizations in ICT and health domain (academic hospitals, research centres and ICT companies, among others…) carried out the HIPERMED Project, which aimed to offer a high performance telemedicine platform based on a unified Service Oriented Architecture providing media services, SIP-based plane services and network services over the Internet Protocol, which supports remote consulting, tele-teaching and distributed consensus decision-making on treatment programs and with the possibility of implementing it in any sort of healthcare unit. By the end of 2013, HIPERMED Project was successfully completed with the development of an integrated platform that offers different high performance health-related services, tested and validated in both Professional-to-Professional and Professional-to-Patient scenarios, and open to integration by third parties’ eHealth solutions.

It is also relevant the collaboration given during the event between HIPERMED and VISIONAIR project (a European Union Seventh Framework Programme funded project with Grant Agreement nº 262044). Both projects conducted several demos based on HIPERMED scenarios to demonstrate the potential benefits of the products developed by HIPERMED partners.
