i2CAT’s results at the Mobile World Congress

The i2CAT Foundation was present once again at the Mobile World Congress, held last March in Barcelona, which is an ideal stage to make known the entity, to introduce the latest news and networking. This year, the balance of the Foundation participation has been particularly positive, not only for the successful demonstrations of its specific innovations, but also by the agreements reached as a result of the visitors.

In this regard, thanks to the participation in the congress, the i2CAT Foundation will become Ambassador of the IoT Solution World Congress, a congress that will take place from 16 to 18 September at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona and that will display the solutions more innovative in a technologically strategic area such as the Internet of Things.

As for the demos shown, the i2CAT’s solution, which created more interest, was the transmission of information via LEDs, a technology known as VLC (Visible Light Communications). This technology, which was also presented by other major companies such as Fujitsu, allowed, among other conversations, to initiate a relationship with a marketing company in Brazil to assess the possibility of a joint project. It was also mentioned and discussed several future applications that could be developed with this technology, such as in the area of culture with the inclusion in museums, navigation assistance for blind or location-based marketing, among others.

The area DANA (Distributed Applications and Networks Area) of i2CAT Foundation presented the technical advances on the concept of network functions virtualization that are being developed in the European T-NOVA project (Virtual Network Functions as a Service over Virtualised Infrastructures). In this sense, the Foundation was part of the first group of European projects under the 5G initiative (the new generation of mobile networks), which aims to define the new standard for mobile communications, which led to numerous meetings and contacts with important companies like HP, Intel, Telefonica or Canonnical (Ubuntu) and local interesting businesses to collaborate in the field of innovation.
