i2CAT presents at Citilab Cornellà the new Competence Centre for the smart glasses Moverio of Epson

i2CAT presented on January 22 the new Moverio competence centre, within the conference on augmented reality that took place in Citilab Cornellà, Augmented Reality & Industry. The main goal of the presentation was to inform the attendees about this new center created by Epson and i2CAT, which aims to make Catalonia a European benchmark in the field of professional applications for smart glasses.

The event was attended by over 40 professionals of the augmented reality group Meetup AR Barcelona, which is a group of developers, entrepreneurs, designers, teachers, students and journalists interested in this field oriented to share knowledge and experience in this technology.

i2CAT explained to the professionals what is the main objective of the newly established Competence Centre: to encourage the development and innovation applied to the Moverio smart glasses to promote the use of augmented reality in professional areas. They also highlighted the wide possibilities of these applications in the industrial environment, such as facilities maintenance, technical services of engine repairs, interactive training of operators for new products in the automotive industry, quality assurance and aid in the creation of new products... Among other examples, we carried out a demonstration of augmented reality display using different types of packaging for liquid products, which would allow showing in 3D what would be the result and at the same time to personalize it by choosing among different colors, type of caps, labels, volume...

The Moverio Competence Centre, developed by I2CAT and the multinational Epson, became reality on January 16 in a ceremony between the two organizations with the aim of creating a common framework for research in an area of high potential growth in areas as different as eHealth and eInclusion, smart cities and smart regions, industrial Internet, or creativity and culture. The agreement, which allow Epson to join the i2CAT Board of Trustees, will consolidate Catalonia as a center of excellence at European level, a strategic meeting point for developers, customers and suppliers of applications for smart glasses. The Competence Centre aims to become a driving force of innovation that is open to the participation and collaboration of all business.
