Jornades APP in Girona, 1-3 October 2014

The headquarters of CaixaForum Girona will host for three days, from 1 to 3 October, conferences, roundtables and demonstrations of multimedia technologies and Augmented Reality applications.

The JornadesAPP, organized by the Catalan Government - Department of Culture, i2CAT Foundation and Kònic thtr will present the opportunities that mobile applications and the technology of Augmented Reality offers to cultural and natural heritage and tourism. Experts in these fields will present the state of the art and the potential offered by these technologies for the cultural tourism sector. Artur Serra, Deputy Director of the Foundation i2CAT, participates on the 2nd October at a roundtable to discuss the advantages and challenges of Augmented Reality for the dissemination and promotion of heritage tourism.

Planned activities also include video mapping projections on Girona’s city emblematic buildings and presentations of the multimedia applications developed by i2CAT Foundation and Koniclab for the Archaeological site of Empúries.

On Friday October 3rd, will take place the presentation of Empúries+, a pilot application based on Augmented Reality (AR) entirely developed by i2CAT Foundation which offers to all users a new interpretation of the archaeological site of Empúries through innovative solutions. Among its many features, this pilot application highlights 3D reproductions from architectural references of the most emblematic of the Greek and Roman buildings, which will allow all visitors to discover how the ruins of Empúries were at its beginnings. 

The Jornades APP are part of the activities under the International Augmented Med (IAM) project, an European project in the framework of the ENPI-CBCMED programme, cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean, which aims to establish a self-sustaining cross-sector system (IT-Tourism) that provides innovative services for heritage enhancement.
