Orange ToIP

Orange is carrying out the deployment of a new infrastructure of high-capacity optical fiber (GPON) in industrial areas of Catalonia. i2CAT is involved in this project by providing its knowledge in telephony systems over IP (ToIP) and advanced optical networks in order to study the feasibility of offering multi-service and IP Trunking services in GPON connectivity environments.

i2CAT is responsible for performing interoperability testing with multiple client devices, analyzing the degree of functionality and performance in terms of quality and safety, with the aim of defining the most appropriate solution and parameterization.

Orange started to commercialize these telephony services and Internet access for businesses during 2011.

Orange Business Services is interested in extending IP telephony services (ToIP) multi-access to new environments based on FTTH technology. Currently these services are only provisioned in ULL environments (on xDSL technology).

i2CAT is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Feasibility study and approval of customer equipment to offer services of Virtual PBX via Ethernet connectivity.
  • Feasibility study and approval of client computers IP Trunking to offer services (ISDN trunk groups BRI) in FTTH environments.

The integration tests are performed in a lab environment and its subsequent validation is performed on the production platform in Orange ToIP Catalunya.
