BARCELONA SMART CITY

BARCELONA SMART CITY

Informacio

Description

In recent years, intelligent cities or Smart Cities have had a special relevance in the field of R+D+i.

The main motivation for this project lies in the fact that most of these technologies involved have their own standards, or they are proprietary technologies. In no case is there a standard or reference model that integrates all the technologies applied to the specific field of Smart Cities.

The project aims to define, design and develop a reference model of a network management platform and sensory data for Smart Cities, and consequently validate it in a major city like Barcelona, with the ultimate goal that this model can be adopted by other cities around the world.

This project is cofounded by European Regional Development Fund, in the framework of Programa Operatiu Objectiu 2 de Competitivitat Regional i Ocupació de Catalunya ERDF 2007-2013.

Innovation

Innovation elements which stand out are:

  • Design, development and validation of a sensor network management platform, taking into consideration the layer of communication and the associated data structure and thus enabling the integration of other types of communication at sensor network levels, the same WSN protocol of the same Wide Area Network (WAN) protocol.
  • Development of a proof of concept of the platform which will involve the deployment of the system and which will interact with existing sensor infrastructures.
Benefits

The results of this project enable the development of new services in the field of the smart cities, at the same time as integrating and interacting with existing devices from different suppliers.
