MOB-ETRICAT

MOB-ETRICAT: Collaborative research in mobility of access networks

Informacio

Description

This project studies and develops device mobility solutions through heterogeneous networks based on the IEE 802.21 future standard or Media Independent Handover and its possible extensions or derivations. The results of this project will cause an impact on the development of services of the involved industrial partners and the other ones who might be interested in it in the future.

MOB-ETRICAT is the consequence of the collaboration initiatives between i2CAT and ETRI, the main public research institution in the field of ICT in South Korea. The collaboration of the Korean institutions provides value to the project due to their vast knowledge of wireless applications and technologies. Moreover, they offer the possibility to know the reality of similar experiences in their country.

Innovation

It basically consists of two activities in the mobility area between access networks: the development of a pilot test in order to demonstrate that a current mobility problem can be solved in Catalonia and that it actually develops a mobile IPTV platform which enables a continuous and transparent service to the user as the access technology (WiFi, 3G, WiMAX and DVB-H) changes.

Benefits

The aim of this project is, on one hand, research results in the form of contributions to standards, scientific papers and intellectual property, and on the other, make prototypes and pilots that enable companies collaborating to create new product lines and improving existing ones.
