URBAN-T

Informacio

Description

The traditional information traffic systems offer information extracted from its own observation, reporting the traffic situation and any incidents which may occur.

The large majority of affectations come from planned operations which, with adequate management, allow us to be informed beforehand of the impact this will have upon the traffic, thus avoiding traffic jams and delays. However, on the other hand the majority of traffic incidents are produced by partial restrictions which cannot be predicted beforehand, which then have a direct impact upon the circulation of vehicles.

These incidents bring a series of secondary effects with them which must also be taken into account, such as pollution, noise etc. According to EEC sources, congestion problems represent annual economic losses higher than 1% of the GDP.

The project will provide assistance for the need to integrate both the available information sources in a city, such as dynamic information capture by means of sensors strategically placed in the city which capture real time data.

Innovation

The Urban-T project, which began at the end of 2012, is carried out jointly with the companies SUMMA and Incosa to design and develop a joint platform for the integrated management of planned and unexpected incidents which affect traffic in a city.

Ultrasound sensors nodes will be used and developed, which, by means of sending signals and echo time, will estimate the number of vehicles in a street and their movement. This solution will be tested in two cities: Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) and Figueres (Girona).
